Dolores Avanelle Harvey went to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the age of 87. The daughter of Clyde and Isla Traywick, Dolores was born on June 30, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
A lifelong resident of Oklahoma City, Dolores grew up attending Oklahoma City public schools and graduated from Crooked Oak High School in 1954. She married Albert James (Jim) Harvey that same year, and their union was blessed with four children: Renee, D'Lisa, Scott, and Shaun.
Dolores dedicated her life to being a loving wife, devoted mother, dedicated homemaker, and faithful church member and volunteer, always putting the needs of her family and friends first and foremost. In 1984, along with two lifetime friends, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to open a boutique gift shop in south Oklahoma City. For the next ten years, Keepsakes was a welcoming environment that inspired creativity and generosity in all who came to browse or to shop. Her customers and vendors became her friends, and all looked forward to stopping by for frequent visits and unique gifts.
Dolores's flare for decorating was not confined to the store. She delighted in making a colorful home and changed her décor with the seasons. She enjoyed making holidays and special occasions an affair to remember. Her family and friends will never forget the care she took to create lasting memories by setting up themes and place settings that immersed those she loved in the same colorful worlds she imagined and so effortlessly brought to life.
More than anything, Dolores will be remembered for her diligence in prayer. She loved her family and friends and prayed for them faithfully. She was dedicated to checking in with them frequently and adding to her prayer list all of their needs and requests. She lived to see many of her prayers answered, and the example she set has left a legacy of prayer warriors that will make an impact for generation upon generation.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Donald Traywick.
Dolores is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughter, Renee Humphrey and her husband, Eddie, of New Albany, IN; her daughter D'Lisa Hopper and her husband, Mike, of Jenks, OK; her son Scott Harvey and his wife, Toni, of Leander, TX; her son Shaun Harvey and his wife, Tammy, of Oklahoma City, OK; her eight grandchildren, Detra and her husband Luke Randall, of New Albany, IN; Mika and her husband Nic Decker, of Owasso, OK; Danae and her husband Noah Haley, of Homer, AK; Roman Harvey and his wife Leah, of Omaha, NE; Dalton Harvey and his wife Kaitlin, of Omaha, NE; Savanna Harvey and Sam Guljas, of Jonestown, TX; and David and Shelby Harvey, of Oklahoma City, OK. Dolores also had six great grandchildren: Trajan, Aspen, and Aevan Haley; Eva and Giana Decker, and Brighton Harvey.
Dolores, also known as Memaw Dee, will be forever missed by her beloved family and friends.
