~~A True Love Story~~

Don Melvin and Shirley Lou Wigley were joined together in marriage on July 11, 1954 at Sunnyside Baptist Church, where Shirley was a lifetime member. More than 70 years later, we celebrate Don and Shirley's love as they are united together for eternity as they both entered Heaven's gates on Saturday, February 8, 2025, a true expression of the beautiful lives and love they shared and we can honor and celebrate.

Job 1:21 ~ The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Don joined the United States Army in 1953. He was stationed at Fort Hood Army Base in Texas and was always very proud of his service to his country. After his discharge, Don began working for Buchanan's Grocery Store and quickly climbed the ladder into management and running operations for Jack Buchanan. After his retirement from Buchanan's Grocery Store, Don volunteered at OKC doing taxes for those in need.

Shirley worked as a secretary until their son, Mike was born. During that time of being a stay-at-home mom, they also decided to become foster parents. Throughout those years, Don and Shirley fostered, nurtured and loved over 50 babies. "SHIRLEY LOVED BABIES!" Then along came a baby that Don and Shirley just absolutely fell in love with and the adoption process began and Tim became their second child. Having two boys kept Don and Shirley very busy, but they truly longed to have a daughter as well. They fell in love with a beautiful young girl named Beth, who helped make their family complete.

Staying actively involved in her church, Shirley, along with Brother Harry, saw a true need for a Christian School in the community and there Christian Heritage Academy began. Shirley worked tirelessly to help make the school the great success it is today.

Don and Shirley loved to travel and see all of God's many wonders and creations. They always enjoyed taking the kids on numerous vacations as the kids grew, experiencing many sights across the United States as well as overseas. Don and Shirley enjoyed their life to the fullest! It was a life and a true love that lasted a lifetime.
