Donald "Don" Lee Parish was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on March 16, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with Dementia.
Don was born to parents Bill and Laura Mae Parish on July 16, 1933 in Geary, OK where he spent most of his early childhood before the family relocated to El Reno, OK. After graduating from El Reno High School, Don obtained a diploma in Accounting from Hill's Business School which served as the foundation for gaining employment as a Comptroller position with Cato Oil & Grease Company in Oklahoma City.
Don married his high school sweetheart, Louise Harrison, in September '55 and subsequently moved to Oklahoma City. Don later decided to follow his father's footsteps in military service by joining the Oklahoma National Guard where he served honorably for six years. Don and Louise started a part-time business known as Parish Custom Draperies in '65. It thrived much sooner than expected which forced him to relinquish his position with Cato to join Louise on a permanent basis. They teamed to build an iconic business that spanned 53 years and was widely known for providing beautiful window treatments.
Shortly after Louise's passing, Don met Peggy Cruzan and the two married in July '87. They enjoyed a 34-year marriage that included fun with family, church friends, travels and various hobbies that included sales of flowers, gifts and simply spending time with their great-grandchildren.
He relished in serving the Lord and exemplified the God-first life in every way possible. Don served as a congregational song leader, board member, elder, teacher, youth sponsor, coach, and men's group leader at Grace Assembly of God and Crossroads Church. We're certain Don has already met those in Heaven that benefitted from his tireless devotion of time, talent, and treasures.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and Louise. He is survived by his wife Peggy; four children and their spouses – Sandra and Gary Weisser, Sheila and Greg Morgan, LaDonna and Mark Wilson, and Michelle Parish; four step-children and their spouses – Rocky and Jennifer Burchfield, Ronda and Richard Moore, Renita and Steve Britt, and Ronnie Burchfield; 18 grandchildren – Jonathan, Timothy, Angel, and Ricky Weisser; Preston, Andrea and Austin Morgan; Cameron and Natalie Wilson; Nathan Sigloch; Brock Widener; Dusty and Heath Burchfield; Tyler, Bethanie, and Brianna Ramirez; Tara Woodley and Sadee Burchfield; 28 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Crossroads Hospice and the Senior Village Healthcare Center in Blanchard, OK. They demonstrated a great deal of compassionate care for Don in the weeks preceding his passing.
