In Loving Memory of Donavan Lee Benton "Dark Warrior in God's Light"
September 13, 1999 - April 22, 2025
On September 13, 1999, Oklahoma City was blessed with the birth of Donavan Lee Benton, a spirited and soulful young man born to Hannah Leah Monroe and Joseph Antwoine Benton. From his very first breath, Donavan embodied the strength and light reflected in the meaning of his name - a "dark warrior in God's light."
Donavan was raised primarily in Moore, Oklahoma, by his devoted Mother. He filled his childhood with vibrant energy, playing soccer and football, cracking jokes, and lighting up every room with his unforgettable smile. He also spent time with his Father, Stepmother Tomeka Benton, and younger sister in California, Tennessee, and North Carolina, where he created cherished memories.
A gifted musician, Donavan expressed his deepest feelings through music. From piano to guitar, to playing the saxophone in his high school band to choir, he lived and breathed rhythm and melody. Music was his emotional outlet— his connection to others and to God. It was how he made sense of the world and gave joy to those around him.
Above all, Donavan held a deep and personal faith in Jesus Christ. He didn't just speak of God's love he lived it. Through private prayers and public acts of kindness, Donavan carried Christ's light. His unwavering belief in God's grace gave him strength through struggles and filled him with compassion for others.
On March 3, 2019, Donavan welcomed his greatest joy into the world— his beloved son, Perseus Orion Benton. Becoming a father was one of the proudest and most transformative moments of his life. No matter the trials, Perseus remained his anchor, his purpose, and his shining light.
On January 19, 2025, Donavan married, Seliah Justice. Although their time together was short, being married was an experience he always dreamt of.
Donavan leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever hold his memory close: His wife Seliah; His precious son Perseus Orion Benton; His mother, Hannah Leah Monroe, and stepfather, AJ Johnson; His father, Joseph Antwoine Benton, and Stepmother, Tomeka.
His maternal grandparents; Gina "MeMe" Pazzaglia and Dave "PawPaw" Filkins; His paternal grandparents; Rita and Walter Kennedy, and Aaron and Renae Williams; His siblings;Angelo Graniello, Aurora Monroe, Destini Benton, and step-siblings Alex
and Maddox Johnson; Patricia Fellows-Walker (Nana); His cousin and lifelong friend, Devon, who was more like a brother.
He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and dear friends who were touched by his radiant smile, quick wit, and enormous heart.
Donavan had the rare ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
Though his earthly journey has come to a close, Donavan's light has not dimmed. He is now at peace in the arms of his Savior, surrounded by eternal music. The melodies he shared continue to play in our hearts, in our memories, and in the lives he touched.
Until we meet again, Donavan-keep the beat going in heaven. Your song lives on.
