IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Jean
Holloway
May 22, 1933 – March 20, 2025
Doris Jean Burks Holloway was born May 22, 1933 in Hobbs, New Mexico the daughter of Temon Mabre and Bessie (Rhodes) Burks. She completed this life on March 20th , 2025 in Edmond, OK at the age of 91.
Doris loved God. She knew she could always count on His love. She told me that one of her best decisions was to join Draper Park Christian Church. The fellowship she experienced with the members brought her great happiness and love. She especially enjoyed the "walker walkers" group, the craft shows and of course Joyce Webb's famous peanut brittle.
Family was very important to Doris. She married the love of her life, James Whitcomb (Jim) Holloway on March 20, 1952. She died on their 73rd wedding anniversary. Kenneth (Kenny) was born on January 2, 1953. Anthony (Tony) was born on October 16, 1954. She enjoyed any moment spent with them, especially the band activities. As her family grew, Doris enjoyed her children and grandchildren by playing games, traveling, square dancing, making ceramics, and teaching how to make her famous fried chicken and green beans. She enjoyed seeing and hearing about the activities of her great grandchildren too.
Doris loved to shop...she may not buy anything or buy it and return it, but she loved to look and feel the fabric. Also, she loved her chocolates, especially toffee or something with coconut or cinnamon.
Being an artist was a goal Doris wanted in her lifetime. I would say she accomplished that and more. Over the years, she painted pictures using different mediums, poured and painted ceramics, designed and made beautiful square dance outfits, crocheted blankets, scarves and sweaters plus did many other creative things. As I said, Doris loved to travel...she said the best trip was the first one they took. They packed up their car and went to Disneyland with Kenny and Tony. She enjoyed many cruises to Alaska, New England and more.
When asked the best lesson in life, she answered: "It's the peace in my heart that God gives me. I can be strong when necessary because God gives me strength."
Doris, you will be missed by many. You've touched so many lives, more than you know. I know you are happy to finally be in God's arms and happy to be reunited with your family members who have gone before you.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Temon and Bessie Burks; her husband, Jim Holloway; her son, Anthony "Tony" Holloway; her siblings, James, Hubert, Geraldine, Wayne, Elizabeth (Punk) and Dale (Sonny).
Doris is survived by her son, Kenneth Holloway and his wife Judy; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anthony (Marilyn) Holloway; her four grandchildren, Aric Holloway and his wife Tracy, Jennifer Prince and her husband, Brian; Lee Holloway and Catherine Paris; her five great grandchildren, Madeline Holloway, Kaily Prince, Elizabeth Prince, Chisum Paris and Cadence Paris.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Draper Park Christian Church. Private family inurnment will be in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
