Doris Smalling went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the age of 89. She was born August 28, 1920 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to her parents, Marlin and Ruth Elizabeth (Huckaby) Jennings. Doris grew up on the family farm in western Oklahoma during the depression and was a part of the World War II generation who learned the value of a life well lived. On August 4, 1942, Doris married Jim Smalling. Doris was a tremendous support to her husband in his work as a teacher, coach, school administrator, and elder in the church. A graduate of Cameron College in Lawton, Oklahoma and Southwestern University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, Doris taught school for over 30 years in Oklahoma and Kansas, and was recognized as an outstanding teacher. Doris enjoyed life wherever she was, whatever she doing and with whomever she was with. As life came to an end on Earth, Doris demonstrated true sacrificial love and devotion as she cared for her husband of 52 plus years during his final illness. Doris had a love for people, especially her family and friends. Enduring the many antics of her sons, Doris was always there for her sons and their families whenever they needed her. Doris always enjoyed family gatherings, playing dominoes and Rook till all hours of the night. Whenever she was with her sisters, even shopping became the best of times. Doris was a wonderful hostess at many parties throughout the years. She was always hospitable and willing to lend a hand and a true friend to all she encountered. She served the Lord and others faithfully and was active in the church.

Son, Jim Brent Smalling and wife, Donna Kaye of Mesquite, TX;
Son, Terry Smalling and wife, Donna Faith of Wagoner, OK;
Grandchildren, Mandy and Bobby, both of Dallas, TX.
