Dorothy Southerland joined her Heavenly Father and a host of family awaiting her arrival in Heaven on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the age of 95. Dorothy was born on March 2, 1928, in Foster, Oklahoma, to her parents, George Milton and Dollie (Glass) Turner. She enjoyed many activities during her youth and was also a talented basketball player. She graduated Warren High School in 1946, and then married the love of her life, Bill Southerland, on November 21, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. In 1953, Dorothy and Bill relocated from Altus, Oklahoma, to Oklahoma City where the two established a home. In 1955, Dorothy began her career working for Central State Beauty College as a Cosmetology Instructor. She was blessed with a son, Kevin Bart Southerland, in 1962, and then finished her career as an instructor in 1970. Dorothy began working again in 1975 for Sheplers Western Wear in the retail sales department until her retirement in 1997 after serving that company for 22 years. She has been a faithful and active member of Capitol Hill Assembly of God Church since 1966 and has enjoyed worshiping there and being a part of the "Always Young" seniors Class. Even though her loving Bill passed away over 35 years ago, Dorothy remained steadfast in her faith & with her loved ones. She so enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy will be remembered for her unconditional love as a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be cherished in our hearts until we are reunited in Heaven.
