IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas Murl
Rogers
June 27, 1950 – March 25, 2025
Douglas "Pappaw" Rogers passed away at his home in Blanchard, Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025 with his family at his side. He spent his final night in his usual spot at home with a good ole cup of coffee, a vintage cowboy show, his little puppy named Dolly which he referred to as "Squirt", and with his family all together. Doug is now in heaven and having a beautiful time with his Savior Jesus Christ.
Doug was born on June 27, 1950, in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Carl and Edna Rogers. Doug's family moved to Dibble, Oklahoma where Doug would spend his childhood and teen years which he would always refer to as the "good ole days." Doug graduated from Dibble High School in 1968. Doug thrived in hunting, fishing, and campfire cooking.
Shortly after graduating, Doug married the love of his life, Connie Sue Gore on December 11, 1970. Doug and Connie established their first home in Oklahoma City and then moved to Newcastle for about the next 16 years. Doug loved Connie very much and knew how to make her laugh and feel loved. In 1972, Doug and Connie became parents to their first and only daughter, Kristi. Doug understood the task at hand and was the best father to Kristi. Doug and Connie moved down south to the small town of Blanchard, Oklahoma in 1987 and have lived there ever since. Soon later, Doug became a grandfather and would be the best Pappaw to his beautiful grandchildren. Doug and his family have been longtime church members here at OKC Faith and created a deep and strong connection with the church family that would last forever. Doug served in different areas of the church, especially cooking meals for the Church Under the Bridge ministry. Due to his health condition, Doug and Connie were unable to attend weekly services, but watched the weekly services via Facebook livestream and always kept in touch with their church family.
Doug was a family man, worked very hard to provide for Connie and Kristi, and overly sacrificed to make sure they were taken care of. Doug worked in the Oilfield for numerous companies then found himself working at Wilson Foods. After working at Wilson Foods due to the company closing, Doug transitioned and became an arborist for Asplundh. He enjoyed doing that, and was able to travel the state because of it. Later then, Doug became a school bus driver for Bridge Creek public schools and worked at that for a decade, but then made the decision to retire in 2024 due to his declining health. He very much enjoyed driving the school buses and going on his designated routes. He made so many friends with the school staff and will be very missed by everyone at Bridge Creek.
Doug loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on special occasions, adventurous trips/vacations, holidays, and certainly when it was time to go camping. Camping was his favorite, as he loved listening to southern gospel music during peaceful mornings while he was drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying the beautiful nature of God's creation. Spending time around the campfire with his family was never a moment he took for granted. He also caught a thrill getting the chance to teach Connie, Kristi, and eventually his grandchildren the ropes of how to go fishing. Doug loved to go fishing and cherished every opportunity to do it. Doug loved history and found himself constantly fascinated about it. Doug found great joy watching the OU football, OU girls basketball and OU softball games with his family. Doug loved watching classic western films, especially the connection they had on the Old West or other accurate historic moments it clicked with. His family meant the world to him and made sure they were happy and okay. The memories he created with them will forever be in their hearts and passed onto future generations.
Doug was well known for his laughter, his sense of humor, and how he brought a smile and purpose of joy to everyone he encountered. His love for the Lord and his family will never be forgotten, but truly missed. His memory will forever live on through the lives he touched and impacted for the better.
He is survived by his:
Wife of 54 years, Connie Rogers;
Daughter, Kristi Ross and husband Toby;
Grandchildren, Emily Jenkins, Joey Ross, Landon Ross;
Great Grandson Josiah Fell;
As well as numerous extended family and loving friends.
