Dwight Talburt Sublett, 70, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Dwight was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to his parents, Leonard & Oneta Sublett, on March 11, 1953. He graduated from Muskogee High School, where he was a two-time, All-State Trombonist. After graduation, he continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band in 1971 & 1972, but stepped away from his love of music, to concentrate on his education. A 1980 graduate, Dwight completed his residency in 1983, and earned his M.D. as a pediatrician.
On July 2, 1976 Dwight married his hearts companion, Ginger Lee Irvin, and the two established a family together, welcoming two children; Justin Lee, and Marissa Dawn. In the early 80's, they relocated to Stillwater, OK where they raised their family and he was blessed to serve families with his specialty in pediatric care. Dwight devoted over 36 years to serving the Stillwater area. He was extremely grateful for his ability to provide his patients with sincere and knowledgeable care. His love for pediatrics continued through generations of families, as he touched countless lives over his years in practice as he poured his heart into his profession.
The desire to be closer to his grandchildren was so deep, that he and Ginger relocated to the Blanchard/Bridge Creek area in 2017. But, dedicated to the practice, he continued to commute from Oklahoma City to Stillwater in the following years. In 2020 Dwight finally made a decision to begin his retirement. This allowed him more flexibility to spend time with family, friends and other loved ones. He truly loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren Callen & Aubrey, attending their sports activities and showering them with a special kind of love, only a Papa could.
Dwight also enjoyed all things cars from the time he was a young boy, especially if it was a Ford. He loved to maintain his '07 Shelby Cobra, and he enjoyed the times he spent with family testing the speedometer. On game day, he would dawn his crimson and cream, in support of his Oklahoma Sooners. From home, or in the stadium, you could always expect to hear his "Boomer Sooner" from the top of his lungs!
Dwight attempted to retire, but he loved working with children so much, that in 2022, he began working with Premier Pediatrics in Norman, OK. He was also the President of the American Academy of Pediatrics - Oklahoma Chapter for a number of years. He was an extremely accomplished man, and received a multitude of distinguished awards, but the highlight of his career was the children he attended, and the countless lives he touched.
Not only will we cherish his accomplishments, but his legacy as a devoted husband, a nurturing and attentive father, grandfather, brother, and friend…. He will be forever in the hearts of his loved ones, and his memory will remain eternally.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents,
Leonard Paul Sublett & Oneta Belle (Talburt) Sublett; father-in-law, Roy Lee Irvin; brother-in-law, Gary Glenn Irvin.
He leaves cherished memories with those who survive his passing: His wife Ginger; son Justin Sublett; daughter Marissa & husband Ryan Hill; grandchildren Callen & Aubrey Hill; brother, Kevin Sublett & wife Sandy of (Alexander City, AL); sister, Shelly Sublett-Peabody & husband Michael Peabody of Memphis, TN; mother-in-law, Dorothy Irvin, & brother-in-law, Ray Irvin, as well as multitude of extended family, friends, business associates and loved ones, who will all miss his presence in their lives.
