IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emma Sue
Cordova
May 18, 1936 – May 2, 2024
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested gifts be made to Mount St. Mary Catholic High School, 2801 S Shartel Ave, OKC, OK 73109 or the Alzheimer's Association.
Emma Sue Córdova went peacefully to be with the Lord on May 2, 2024, at the age of 87. The daughter of Pedro Herrera Aguilar and Josefa Barragan, Emma was born May 18, 1936, in Marfa, Texas. After graduating from Uvalde High School, she attended beauty school to become a hairdresser. To earn money to pay for tuition at beauty school, she worked at the local record shop where she met the love of her life, Pete. After getting enough courage to tell his sister Maria to go ask for him, Pete and Emma went on their first date to the movies. A few weeks later, Pete took Emma to his family farm in La Pryor, Texas. It was there he proposed to her as he was helping her climb over a fence. They married on May 31, 1961, and shared more than 52 years of a beautiful, loving marriage. Pete and Emma went to Oklahoma City for their honeymoon and never left. Emma first worked at a beauty shop in Oklahoma City and later started her long-time career as a secretary at University Hospital (OU Health Sciences Center), retiring after 30 years. After she retired, she very much enjoyed volunteering and being around children. She was often found at St. James Catholic School reading to the children and helping at Mount St. Mary Catholic High School as a server in the cafeteria line. Emma and Pete raised two children, Talita DeNegri, married to Robert, and Peter Córdova, married to Stephania. Emma was known for her famous tamales, Mexican wedding cookies, and flour tortillas. She loved tending to her garden, always pruning her rose bushes and making sure her favorite flowers, black-eyed Susan's and daises were in bloom. Emma's greatest joy were her four grandchildren. She never missed an event, and her grandchildren never went hungry and could do no wrong. She made sure the grandchildren always had dessert before, during, and after all meals! Emma was an avid sports fan and particularly loved OU football and cheering for the MSM Rockets. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro Herrera Aguilar and Josefa Barragan; husband, Pete Córdova Jr.; sisters, Ernestina Flores, Elisa Flores, and Rosita Garcia; brothers, Adalberto Aguilar, Harvey Aguilar, and Ismael Aguilar.
She leaves cherished memories with her family: daughter, Talita DeNegri, married to Robert; son, Peter Córdova, married to Stephania; grandchildren, Mekele Keilty (Jack), Elle Muzny (Hunter), Chris Córdova (Audrey), Elizabeth Córdova, and six beautiful great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Jasmine Estates and Life Springs Hospice Care for the excellent care given to Emma in her final days. Also, thank you to Helen and Cres for the love and care they showed during Emma's final years.
