Emma Lou Stricklin, 91, passed away June 11, 2015 in Oklahoma City. She was born November 23, 1923 in Whittaker, West Virginia to Okey A. and Esther B. (Kelly) Toney. She married Edsel Stricklin on September 1, 1940 and became a WWII military wife. Emma Lou was the Executive Manager of Ayward's Exclusive Women's Apparel in South Charleston, WV and spent 25 years as a retailer and buyer of exclusive ladies apparel. Although her family was her passion, Emma Lou was an accomplished dancer and singer. She and her husband belonged to the Latin, Passepied, and University Dance Clubs in Charleston, WV, she was an avid reader, loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and Europe, and was a long-time member of the South Charleston, WV Garden Club. She is survived by her sons, Major General retired Toney Stricklin, Oklahoma City & Master Sergeant retired Kelly Stricklin, Bossier City, LA; daughters-in-law Jennifer Stricklin, Oklahoma City & Hazel Stricklin, Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Tracey and Robert Bockholt, Lithia, FL; Brandi and Dennis Nelson, Cape Coral, FL; Erin and Theo Unbehagen, Round Rock, TX; Christopher Stricklin, Cape Coral, FL; and Beth Stricklin, Cape Coral, FL; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; sister, Nancy Jo Campbell, Gallagher, WV; brother, Lanny Toney, Gallagher, WV; brother-in-law, Mim Campbell; and sisters-in-law, Joann Toney & Debbie Toney, all of Gallagher, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edsel Stricklin; parents, Okey and Esther Toney; brothers Okey, Shirley, Garnet Erwin, Dan "DL", Paul Draton, Billy Gene, and sister Clifton Ann. Emma Lou had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who she dearly loved. Other special friends she appreciated include Barbara Stricklin, Georgetown, TX; Karen Stricklin, Cape Coral, FL; Dr. Rosemary Bellino, Lawton, OK; Randy and Becky Smith, Oklahoma City; Dr. and Mrs Gary Walker, Grand Lake, OK; and Fran McCutchin, Lawton, OK. Emma Lou was a role model of strength, character, laughter, and joy for her children, family, and friends. Many would say she never complained in the face of adversity. The special words used by her family to describe this remarkable woman are: Loving, Pristine, Classy, Amazing, Extraordinary, Youthful, Regal and Glamorous. She profoundly touched the lives of those who she met, knew and loved. Emma Lou accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and is now dancing in heaven. The family conveys its special thanks to Dr. Ronald H. White, Oklahoma City. Emma Lou will be interred with her husband Edsel in the Toney family burial site overlooking Paint Creek in Greencastle, West Virginia.
