In Memory of Ester Katherine Bickford Hughes

Ester was born March 27, 1921 on Easter Sunday and went to be with her Lord on March 11, 2021. She was a member of Draper Park Christian Church, Life member of the Order of Eastern Star #494 and White Shrine. She was President of the Oklahoma Federation of Square Dance Clubs and served in many offices for it. She was General Chairman for the 27th National Square Dance Convention in 1978, served 23 years on the Executive Committee, and was advisor for OKC in 1989 & 2003, Birmingham in 1995, and Baltimore in 2000. Ester and her husband, Pete, were the models for the only Square Dance Statue in the world and it stands in the Oklahoma State Fair Park in OKC. She also served as Community Service Chairperson for the Best Years Club of OKC in 2004 & 2007. Ester also volunteered for Moore Medical Center, Will Rogers Airport, Salvation Army, & New Enuff at Norman Hospital. She was owner and partner in Hughes Upholstery from 1995-2001 and in retirement she and Pete traveled for KOA Campgrounds. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Pete) Hughes; daughter, Jayne Phillips; parents, Clarence & Ethel Bickford; and 8 siblings, Hubert Bickford, Blanch Lyons, Thelma Ropp, Mary Burns, Calvin Bickford, Leon Bickford, Floyd Bickford and infant Naomi. She is survived by daughter, Jolene and husband Gary Skibicki; granddaughters, Tammy Jo and husband Brad Ramsey, Allison Skibicki, Jackie and husband Garrett Owens; great-granddaughter, Karley and husband Joe Dixon; grandsons, David and Danny Joe Phillips; and many nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests donations to a cause close to your heart.
