Eva Leona (Foley) Middlebrooks was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born to her parents, Marvin Edward and Eva Mae (Rice) Foley on March 10, 1924 in Boone County, Missouri near Columbia, Missouri. Leona gave her heart to the Lord in December 1937 at a Revival meeting in Columbia, Missouri at the Church of God. She graduated from Hickman High School, home of the Kewpie Dolls. She attended most of their reunions including the 70th. She began singing at the church in Columbia, Missouri having come from a musical family that loved to sing when they were together. Her family moved several times before settling in Dallas, Texas in July 1953. On January 6, 1956, Leona married her sweetheart, Lee Eugene Middlebrooks. This union of marriage was blessed with more than 52 years of marriage, a growing family and serving the Lord together until his passing in 2008. She was a part of the choir at First Church in Dallas for 30 years, retiring in December 1983. She worked outside the home at many occupations including a shoe factory and a dairy, finally as a secretary and bookkeeper 17 years for a mortgage company downtown in Dallas. Her career gave her the skills that she used for the Lord's work. She served as a Treasurer of First Church of God for 9 years during the time the new building was built, also serving on various boards & committees She also served as secretary-treasurer of the West Texas Women of the Church of God for 17 years. When the Southwest Church of God was established, she was treasurer and directed the music for 5 ½ years. In January of 1994, the family relocated to Oklahoma City, where they enjoyed worshipping at Shartel Church of God. Leona loved her family and prayed that they all would come to love the Lord. She was concerned about all of their problems and celebrated their accomplishments. She stayed connected to her many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws through the years. She and Lee loved to travel. They are remembered among their friends as having generously offered their hospitality to one and all. Leona was a huge baseball fan beginning with the St. Louis Cardinals and later switching loyalties to the Texas Rangers which she watched faithfully every game. She will be remembered for her strength during hard times and her exceptional memory. She will be deeply missed.
