November 3, 1927 – January 19, 2024
Frank was born November 3, 1927 at home in Chigley, OK, to John and Vera Smith. Frank was a strong Christian, hard worker, loved to sing bass in gospel Quartets, faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church for 72 years and a 32 degree mason. Frank worked for Oklahoma City Utilities for 33 years and for the OKC Public Schools as a Custodian in the evenings at Filmore Elementary. He retired from the City Utilities, and went full time with the public schools, at Southern Hills Elementary, for a total of 44 years. Frank had a servant's heart, was known by his family and friends as "the hardest working man they ever knew." A man of few words, his actions of serving others spoke loudly of his faith in Jesus Christ. Frank married the love of his life, Maryllis on January 19th, 1952. They were married for 63 years until her death. This past Friday, January 19, on their wedding anniversary, Frank joined her in heaven.
Frank is survived by his four children, Joyce Mason of Mustang, Linda Gamble and husband Hurley of Moore, Beverly Fulwider and husband, David of Moore; son, Richard W. Smith and wife, Kim of Waxahachie, TX.; Ten grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; a sister, Kathryn Pittman Adams and husband, Lyndol, of Madill, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maryllis, parents John and Vera Smith, son-in-law Roy Mason, sister Ruby Brents, brothers-in-law Bob Brents and Bill Pittman. Funeral services will be held at Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes, 4000 SW 119th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73173 on January 24 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in OKC.
