IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Freddie Leon
Brotherton
October 29, 1935 – September 29, 2015
Freddie Leon Brotherton departed this life on Tues., Sept. 29, 2015. His birthdate is a point of some controversy. The State of Arkansas reported the date as Oct. 29, 1925. His mother, however, remembered it occurring on Oct. 30, 1925. As she had a vested interest in the outcome, it was always celebrated on the 30th. Freddie was raised in Blanchard & Okla. City. He joined the United States Marine Corps in Feb. 1954. His bride-to-be was furious at the time. Reba Beatrice Clifton eventually forgave him. They were married on June 4, 1956. Freddie sold his Lincoln Zephyr to buy the wedding ring, having decided he loved Reba even more than that beautiful car. Freddie & Reba moved several times between CA & OK. Having decided the weather in OK was more to their liking, they opened Brotherton's Barber Shop in OKC in Aug. 1968. They stayed in operation until June 13, 2009. Freddie was happiest when he was with family. He was a great example of what a Christian husband, father, & man should be. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Layton Brotherton; mother, Doris North Brotherton, as well as brothers, Robert "Bob" , Ronnie, & Randy Brotherton; & sister, Wanda McLaughlin. His remaining siblings are David & wife, Lynn, Pamela Vinyard & husband, Roy, & Dawn Gray & husband, Steve. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Reba Brotherton; sons, Roy, Rodney, Ryan & wife, Krisonda, & Rhett & wife, Grayce; & daughter, Reba Renea Brotherton. He has nine grandchildren & seventeen great-grandchildren with another due in Jan. These numbers fail to show the numerous people he took into his home. There are many more people who, while not related by blood would proudly call him Dad or Papa. He was a man of boundless love & humor. He will be greatly missed.
