Gary L. Davis
December 2, 1950 - July 17, 2024
Gary Lee Davis passed away July 17, 2024 after a battle with dementia and other health issues. Gary was born December 2, 1950 in Oklahoma City. He is the eldest of three children born to Brown "Lee" Davis and Jeweldine (Turner) Davis. He was raised in Oklahoma City graduating from U.S. Grant High School in 1969. In September 1972 he joined the Oklahoma City Fire Department, proudly serving his community for 31 - 1/2 years until his retirement in 2004 at the rank of Battalion Chief of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division. During his years with OCFD he was very proud of being instrumental in helping to create the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic programs, the defibrillator program, and improving the Incident Command computer system. He was selected the 1993 Kiwanis Club Firefighter of the Year. He worked 18+ days on-site after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building leading the EMS Division. He also worked the May 3, 1999 tornado in South OKC and Moore. After retirement from OCFD he wanted to continue to work and was hired at Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security from 2004 to 2014 as their Training and Exercise Coordinator. After retiring from OK Homeland Security he continued to work contractually with National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC) from 2014 to 2021. He also worked countless part time jobs through the years such as the OK County Election Board and Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) in their 911 division. Gary married Kristi (Freeman) on November 25, 2000. They enjoyed traveling and RV camping with their Good Sam RV group to many Oklahoma campgrounds. Gary loved photography so they have many pictures to memorialize the fun they had on trips and of family gatherings. Another favorite pastime was working in his yard and tinkering in his shop and we won't ever forget he was the "ultimate computer guru" and was always willing to help anyone. Gary was blessed with a daughter (the first love of his life), Tamarra Joyce (Davis) Yount. She blessed Gary and Kristi with three precious grandchildren, Zoie, Britney, and Caleb Yount. Together with Gary's step-son Matthew Riley, they created a loving blended family. Gary was a loving husband, father, Papa, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his family. He is survived by his wife Kristi, of the home, his daughter Tamarra, OKC, step-son Matt, his 3 grandchildren, sister Deborah Kay and brother-in-law Rick Percival, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rebecca Ann and brother-in-law Kenny Brown.
We love you Gary and you will be deeply missed.
We would like to thank the staff of Jasmine Estates, 2232 SW 104th, OKC and Traditions Health Hospice, Norman, OK for their excellent care of Gary.
