Obituary

George Henry Cox at the age of 91 went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021. The son of Jack & Anna Cox, he was born on July 2, 1930 in Hydro, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. He leaves behind his loving family: his wife of 62 years Shirley Cox…his 7 children: Steven Southwell, Ronald Short, Michael Cox, Stephen Short, Georgiann Carter, David Cox & Charity Andrews…numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece and many other extended family and friends.

George grew up on a farm in Oakwood, OK. They moved to Thomas, OK in order for him to play football his junior and senior years. He was the football team and propelled the team to win the State Championships as a right tackle.

George was very proud to have served his country during the Korean War in the Navy. He had many titles during this time. He was a 1st Class Petty Officer, Gunner, Pipe Fitter, Welder and Boxer. He was also an entrepreneur… (loan officer) LOL As a way to make extra money he would loan money and on pay day he and a buddy would stand at the entrance and exit doors to collect the money loaned with interest.

When he and Shirley met, he was in grain elevator construction then when moving to Oklahoma he started with CMI at their conception and retired twice from there after 32 years of service as a Field Service Engineer traveling to more than 30 countries and every state multiple times. He experienced many different cultures in the countries that he worked in and made friendships with them. They would invite him into their homes, family gatherings and honored him with gifts.

He and Shirley owned a restaurant for a short period of time, Shipmans, and realized that wasn't for them. They also had a concession trailer traveling to many festivals with the children and grandchildren. He made the best ever corndogs!

George loved gardening, fishing and boating.

George was very social and loved the outings with the church. As Shirley would put it "he had the gift of gab!" and eating ice cream!

George was a wonderful provider and his family always came first. Toward the end of his life his relationship to Jesus expediently increased and he praised the Lord continually. We were often asked if he was a preacher.

George was loved by so many and will be greatly missed, but we know that he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior no longer in pain but happy and rejoicing for eternity.
