George Grube, 79, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010. George was born Elmer George Grube, Jr. to E.G. and Pearl Grube, on November 26, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City. George had a lifelong career in entertainment and film, beginning with his first job as usher at the Victoria Theatre on North Classen. George's career in entertainment lasted nearly seven decades, and included employment at the Plaza Theatre, Criterion Theatre, Tower Theatre, Harbor Theatre, 14 Flags Drive-In, Heritage Theatres, Wedgewood Amusement Park, Springlake Amusement Park, and numerous other Oklahoma City area theatres and drive-ins. George founded his own entertainment based advertising agency, George Grube Advertising, Inc., in 1968, placing radio, television and newspaper advertising for Walt Disney Pictures in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, and expanded to a regional based agency in 1991 with the opening of an office in Dallas. Over 37 years of operation, the agency handled numerous major and independent film studios, such as Columbia Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, Miramax Films and many, many others. George was passionate about film and never turned down the opportunity to watch a good movie. George's other lifelong passion was OU Football and the Sooner Marching Band. George faithfully attended home and away games for over 60 years. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, E.G. and Pearl Grube, and his sister Jeanette Hillman. He is survived by his wife, Cherri Grube of Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Steve Puckett of Oklahoma City; stepson Brent Lenoir of Oklahoma City; grandson Jay Puckett, and his wife Amber and daughter Jaiden Kennedy of Amarillo, Texas; granddaughter Katie Puckett, of Oklahoma City; niece Judy Walker and husband Glen Walker of Yukon; and numerous other family members and friends. Viewing to take place Tuesday, July 20 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at VONDEL L. SMITH & SON MORTUARY 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd., (405) 720-1439. Graveside services for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, July 21, 10:00 AM at MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY, 13400 N. Kelly. Memorial service to take place Wednesday, July 21, 1:00 PM at CHURCH OF THE SERVANT, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Oklahoma City Museum of Art Film Program.
