George Wilson Hunt, 85, of Oklahoma City passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024 with his family by his side. Born in Shawnee, OK on December 20, 1938, he dedicated his life to serving his country and his community. A distinguished veteran, his military career spanned over three decades. Wilson served in Vietnam in 1967-68 as a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces where he was awarded numerous military honors including the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor and a Purple Heart. He retired in 1992 having achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame in 2019.

Wilson enjoyed a successful civilian career with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Oklahoma. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He cherished time with his family and loved reading, golf and the Oklahoma Sooners.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Dumont; his four children: Paul Hunt (SC), Randy Hunt (WA), Wilson Hunt, Jr. (MI), and Lindsay Behrens (OK); eight grandchildren: Mattie, Jayme, Quinn, Haley, Mallory, Carter, Romi and Elie; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Maxine Hunt, and his brothers, Roy and David Hunt.

Command Sergeant Major George Wilson Hunt will be remembered for his bravery, service, and devotion to both his country and his family.

Viewing will be held at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary, North, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd, on Friday, November 22nd, 2024 from 12 Noon until 8 PM with the family present to greet friends from 4-6 PM at the funeral home. Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 23rd, 2024 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 10600 N. Council Road in Oklahoma City. A Graveside Inurnment service will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia at a later date.
