Dr. Guruswami Ganesan was born April 3, 1932 in Chennai, India the son of Guruswamy Ganesan and Alamelu Ganesan. He passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Oklahoma City at the age of 90.

Dr. Ganesan was raised in his native India where he earned his Medical Degree in 1961 from Bangalore Medical College, Bangalore University, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He was a board certified physician in the field of Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

He and his wife, the late Dr. Devaki Ganesan were one of the first Indian families to settle in Oklahoma City and as founders and originators in building the Indian Asian community in Oklahoma, they were an integral force in creating the phenomenal community we have today.

A pillar in the medical and Indian community in Oklahoma City for over 50 years, Dr. Guruswami Ganesan's loss is profound not only to his family but to his beloved community of friends, family and colleagues in the medical, Asian Indian and Oklahoma community. Whether as Cardiology practice at the Veterans Administration Medical Center to his advocacy and volunteerism, there are no words to adequately describe the sheer force of intelligence, leadership and compassion that Dr. Ganesan exemplified. May God Bless his most beautiful and special soul.

He is survived by his daughter, Mena Ganesan of Oklahoma City; his son, Arvind Ganesan of Washington, D.C.; his grandson, Alex Ganesan; his brother, G. Krishnamurthi; his sister, G. Saraswathi; his nieces, Vasanti K, Sanhya Ravi; his great nieces and nephews, Kanishka V, Nivash Aathitya Ravi, Abhishek Ravi and Niveditha Dhanvanth.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in the Vondel Smith Mortuary North Chapel, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. with cremation to follow.
