IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold Ray
Mccurley
September 5, 1936 – April 1, 2024
Harold McCurley, 87, of Oklahoma City, passed away Monday, April 1st, 2024, at his home after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Harold was born to Marvin and Vesta McCurley in Elmore City, Oklahoma on September 5, 1936. Harold was raised and attended High School in Paoli, Oklahoma, graduating in 1954. Later, Harold attended UCO where he earned his bachelor's degree in education.
Serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961, Harold was proud of his military service. He was also trained and certified with the Reserve Law Officers Association. Harold married Linda Baker and they were blessed with two daughters, Sheri and DeDe. They attended First Baptist Church of Moore and were faithful members. Harold enjoyed spending time with his family; camping, water skiing and snow skiing were their favorite activities.
Harold worked hard to make sure he provided for his family. He was employed with Western Electric/Lucent Technologies for 30 years until his retirement. In 1996, Harold's wife, Linda, passed away, with his children and family helping him navigate through that difficult time.
Some years later, Harold found love again, and married Jean Witt on November 5, 2005, and attended Eagle Heights Baptist Church. This new chapter for Harold brought light and joy back into his life. He and Jean enjoyed traveling, with trips to Branson, cruising overseas and family gatherings.
In his spare time and younger years, Harold enjoyed going fishing and was also an avid runner. He ran every day, and one of his favorite spots was Little River Park in Moore, as well as Earlywine Park in south Oklahoma City. He occasionally had a running buddy or two, one of whom was Lee Spencer. In Harold's final days, Lee visited him and sang some of his favorite hymns, which brought him peace and comfort.
Harold will always be remembered for his kindness, his love of family, and his love of the Lord.
Harold was preceded in death by his
parents and wife, Linda McCurley, brothers Lewis, Larry, and Bob McCurley, sisters Joyce Bolin, Emma Lois Moore, and Barbara Barnett.
Survivors include wife Jean McCurley, sister Glenna Young, daughters DeDe Carter (Mark), Sheri Blake (Geoff), stepdaughters Cindy Crawford (Frankie), and Penny Meyer (Eric), stepson Mike Witt (Debbie), and numerous grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren.
