Harold Rex Smith, 84, died February 20th at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. Rex was born on February 6, 1932 to Harold E. & Edna C. Smith in Vandalia, Illinois. He graduated from Vandalia Community High School in 1949 where he was active in track and baseball. Rex enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and after basic training attended classes at Oklahoma State University prior to being shipped to Japan during the Korean War. He later settled in Oklahoma City and spent 20 years at Comac as a computer programmer then employed by the State of Oklahoma until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan covering both college and professional teams, especially the Chicago Cubs. He always looked forward to and enjoyed bowling at Heritage Lanes with his many friends. Survived by his wife Anne, daughter Debbie and son-in-law John Appleseth, grandchildren Andrea and Jordan Appleseth and great grandsons Jake and Wyatt; all of Oklahoma City and a brother John, and niece Kathy of Deltona, Florida. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Vondel L Smith & Son Mortuary North.
