Vondel Smith Mortuary NORTH
Harry Leroy Marks, Jr.
Harry Marks – loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend- passed
away peacefully on October 30th, 2011, surrounded by those who love him most.
His passing from this mortal plane was precipitated by his faith, unshakable
courage, and trademark sense of humor. The wisdom, laughter, and aloha he
shared with all he met will be forever missed..
Harry was born on the 9th of June, 1943, in Taylor, TX to Harry L. and Dorothy
V. Marks. He married the love of his life, Janice Gail Grose, in South Bend,
IN on September 15th, 1963. He proudly served his country with Marine Air
Traffic Control Squadron 65. Following his honorable discharge in 1966, Harry
joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller, a career he
loved immensely. As a controller and ATC instructor he lived in Illinois, Hawai'i,
Kwajalein Marshall Islands, and eventually Oklahoma City, where he then retired
from the FAA. Following retirement, he continued to pursue his passion for
aviation, working as a contractor to the FAA as an ATC instructor.
His interests over the years included flying, water skiing, classic Studebaker cars,
traveling with his beloved wife, spending time with his grandchildren, and fishing
at his fish camp. He served Spring Creek Baptist Church as an Elder. Above all,
he loved to laugh and to share his wisdom, faith and strength with anyone who
cared to ask.
He is survived by his wife and sons Robert (wife Lynn), Brian, Adam (wife
Angela); grandchildren Andrea, Logan, Jacob, Gabrielle, Faith, Ryan, and
Christine; and sisters Alice, Susan, and brother Jack. Harry was preceded in
death by his parents and brothers Robert and Gary.
