Harvey Ray Harris's Obituary

Harvey Ray Harris, age 90, of Oklahoma City, passed away on February 19, 2026, surrounded by his sons Brian and David.

Harvey was born on October 20, 1935, in Atoka County, Oklahoma, to Elmer Grady Harris and Rose (Nanny) Harris. He was the second of seven children. His siblings included Billy Charles (deceased), Shirley Nadine, Jimmy Willis (deceased), Barbara Ann, Linda Sue (deceased), and Grady Don.

Harvey began his education at the age of five, attending Lehigh and Colgate schools. In 1943, his family moved to Savannah, Oklahoma, where he attended school from the third grade until graduating in 1953. He attended one year of college at Southeastern State College before joining the United States Air Force.

Harvey served six years in the Air Force, including two years in Japan working in personnel and recruiting. He also served as a personnel psychologist assistant in Oklahoma City and Southern California. During his military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

While working in the Air Force offices in Oklahoma City, Harvey met his future wife, Almeta. They married on May 28, 1959, and shared 66 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on July 19, 2025. Together they raised three sons and were blessed with thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Harvey built a long and fulfilling career at Oklahoma Gas & Electric. He began in customer service and retired as Benefits Administrator in Human Resources after 35 years of dedicated service. Harvey loved people and had a remarkable gift for getting to know others, learning their stories, and remembering their names. He made friends easily at every stage of his life.

He was active in many organizations throughout his lifetime. Harvey coached baseball and basketball for his sons and was an active member of Southern Hills Baptist Church for over 40 years and volunteered at least 25 years greeting people. He volunteered at the Christmas Connection and would drop off Christmas gifts to those in need. He also volunteered at the OG&E booth at the Oklahoma State Fair for several years after he retired. He loved playing dominoes and continued organizing weekly games even when he could no longer attend in person.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; his beloved wife, Almeta; and his son, Mark.

He is survived by his sons: Brian Harris and partner Kevin Lee; David Harris and wife Regina; and his cherished daughter-in-law, Jaylynn Kooken-Harris. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brennen Harris and wife Kelsey; Cameron Harris and wife Shelby; Austin Harris and wife Austin; Madeline Harris and partner Logan Zuchnik; Hailey Wilson and husband Dakota; Hanna Price and husband Jacob; Albany Harris; Amaya Harris; Private Jacob Harris and wife Dalandis; Lyndsay Dukes and husband Ryan; and Kody Kooken. He also leaves behind thirteen great-grandchildren, with two more expected in 2026.

Harvey believed deeply in building relationships and truly never met a stranger. His legacy of kindness, service, and friendship will live on in all who knew and loved him.
