Obituary

Harvey Eugene Pendergraft passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with his wife, Vera and daughter, Renee, by his side. Harvey was 85 years old. He was born on October 31, 1939, in Oklahoma City to his parents, Harlen and Ethel Pendergraft. Harvey grew up in Oklahoma City graduating in 1957 from Central High School where he met the love of his life, Vera Jane Coffey. He entered the Air Force Reserve in January 1957. Harvey and Vera were married March 1, 1958, and enjoyed 66 years together. They made their home in Oklahoma City where they raised their children, Steve and Renee.

Harvey worked at Oklahoma Clutch, Southwest Electric, John H. Cole, owned Southern Midwest Electric, worked at DMI, and in his last 22 years, owned Elegant Interiors custom window treatment. All jobs echoed Harvey's love of working with his hands, and of being a "jack of all trades". Harvey loved classic cars. He restored several over the years, but his favorite was his '39 Chevy. Harvey was a member of the National Street Rod Association where he made lifelong friendships. He attended car shows with his son and grandsons, also "car guys", passing this beloved hobby to them as well.

Harvey loved music, especially Classic Country and Big Band Jazz. He played drums in the infamous "Last Chance Band" and had a keen musical ear. He could tell you the artist and title from hearing just the first few notes of a song.

Most of all, Harvey enjoyed time spent with his family. He loved to celebrate every day with those he loved, but holidays and birthdays were particularly special to him, especially his own Halloween birthday- a birthday he shared with his wife! He loved watching OU football, attending his grandkids' sporting events, family trips to the lake, and Friday date nights at the movies with Vera. Harvey was a Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. He was kind, generous, and a living example of Ephesians 5:25 "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church". Harvey will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Harlen and Ethel Pendergraft; in-laws, R.H. and EvaLena Coffey; son, Steve Pendergraft; nephew, Kyle Lee Henley; sister Drotha McClure; brother-in-law, Jim Ethridge; brother-in-law, Bennie Coffey; nephew, Blair Coffey; and brother, James Pendergraft.
