Hazel "Eileen" Fox, 85, of Oklahoma City passed away Friday, October 24th, 2025 at Saint Francis Heart Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Eileen was born in Oklahoma City's Wesley Hospital on May 15, 1940 to Hazel Josie Dyer Matthews and Chester Allen Matthews. She and her family were longtime members at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. As a young girl, Eileen started playing the piano, which was a passion she pursued throughout her life. Eileen graduated as co-valedictorian from Moore High School in 1958 and went to the University of Oklahoma. While there, she played flute in the band and pursued an organ degree studying under the renowned Mildred Andrews. Church music was important to her as she started to accompany while a teenager. In college, she played organ at Trinity Baptist Church in Norman and continued to serve in churches in Massachusetts, North Carolina and Nebraska before returning to Oklahoma. After returning home, Eileen served as a full-time or substitute accompanist at a number of churches including Trinity Baptist of Norman, and Southern Hills Baptist and Village Baptist of Oklahoma City. Eileen worked as a private piano teacher, an accompanist at Capitol Hill Funeral Home, and Moore Funeral Home, and joined the staff of South Oklahoma City Junior College (later Oklahoma City Community College) as an adjunct piano instructor for more than 30 years. She also worked in the family business, Sooner Distributors, started by her father in 1949 first as an oilfield supply company and later in outdoor power equipment sales. She was an active member of the American Guild of Organists, the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association, and the Music Teachers National Association. She served as the Southwest District President of OMTA, and played an important role with the theory committee with her close friend, Auda Marie Thomas. In 2011, she was honored by OMTA as an MTNA Foundation Fellow, and in 2025 was recognized for her 50 years of membership and service to the association.

While Eileen was heavily involved in the family business, church music and piano lessons, and a huge fan of Sooner sports and the OKC Thunder, her devotion was to her sons, Brian, Kevin and Eric, and later her grandchildren. She was a teacher who was proud of her piano students, but she sang her grandkids praises and accomplishments loudly. She relied upon her faith to face challenges in life living out her keystone verse, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Hazel Matthews, her sons Brian Harold Fox and Kevin Dale Fox, and her grandsons Cody Brian Fox, Cory Matthew Fox and Caleb Harrison Fox as well as her brother in law, Kenney Gray. Survivors include her sister, Kathleen Gray of The Woodlands, Texas; her son Eric and wife Jamey Fox of Tulsa; her grandsons and their families Carter and Jordyn Fox of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Grant and Libby Fox of Bixby, Oklahoma and her granddaughter, Kennedy Fox of Tulsa as well as great grandchildren Herbert Fox of Grand Junction and Raegan Rutledge of Bixby. She also leaves a legacy with her nephews, nieces, family, friends and former students who she cared for deeply.
