Helen Valderas Martinez entered Heavens gates on June 3, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born November 20, 1930 in El Reno, Oklahoma to Vicente & Francisca (Zarate) Valderas. She graduated from El Reno High School in 1947 and shortly after attended business college. In 1954 Helen wed the love of her life Marion Julian Martinez, and the two were married for 53 years until his passing on November 29, 2007. Helen dedicated much of her life to serving the church in every way possible. She volunteered at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan, in San Juan, Texas for almost 40 years, and also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School in Oklahoma City for 50 years. Helen was also blessed as a very hard worker and dedicated employee. Her career began with the VA Hospital, where she was the supervisor of cardiology for over 30 years, while managing the EKG systems as well. Helen worked with some of the best doctors and surgeons, which allowed her to learn and absorb all of the wonders of the human heart. She later began a career with the Federal Aviation Administration, where she was the cardiac wellness examiner for the official pilots' flight certifications. Helens favorite pastimes included, serving the Lord through her work as a volunteer at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School, and she enjoyed fishing! She loved having her family together, and every family gathering seemed to become a holiday celebration. Her love was unconditional, and she will be cherished in our hearts and memories until we meet again.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Vicente & Francisca Valderas; husband, Marion Julian Martinez; sons: Victor & Tony Martinez; brothers: Santos, Johnny, Vincent, Bobby, Richard, & Arthur Valderas; sisters: Jesse, Mary, Theresa, Margaret, Elisa, & Sarra; and one grandson: Nathaniel Martinez.
Helen is survived by her two sisters: Frances Valderas Jones & husband Joe Jones, and Cookie Vega; daughter-in-law Connie Martinez; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. We will miss her dearly, but we rejoice as she is experiencing a fantastic reunion with all of her family in the presence of our Lord.
