Obituary

CARVER, Henry Mitchel, 92, departed from this earthly life on Sept. 29, 2009 to reside in his Eternal home that was prepared for him and all who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. Proud parents, Effie Alma & Frank Arthur Carver welcomed their son Henry into the Carver family on Aug. 21, 1917 in Cashion, OK to join his older siblings, Lois Mae & John Edward Carver. A hard worker his entire life, Henry began working at a young age, delivering newspapers routes for the OKC Times, stocking inventory and delivering orders at Cornwell's I.G.A. where he also candled eggs, tested milk for cream and served as a janitor. In addition to working, Henry learned the skill of carpentry from his father and worked picking cotton and harvesting wheat. During his high school years, Henry also showed his skills as an athlete playing basketball, baseball and performing in track events. During WWII, Henry honorably served his country in the US Army. Henry provided a warm and loving home for his family by working many jobs throughout the course of his life, including working in the shipyards in Long Beach, CA, Quick Change, Boardman Manufacturer, Oklahoma Fixture, Barber Sheet Metal, Hoover Homes Construction in OKC, Gordon's Air Conditioning in Norman, and his longest employment was at Tinker AFB where he worked as a sheet metal worker and supervision for 29 years before retiring. Throughout his life, Henry was also involved in many different organizations including the Boy Scouts of America where he earned his 1st Class Badge, Youth for Christ, Gideon's International since 1976, American Legion Post #13, and the Oklahoma Retired Citizens Travel Club. A lifetime member of the Free Methodist Church, Henry most recently worshipped at the May Ave. Wesleyan Church where he was a charter member. Henry's best decision in life was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a teenager and rededicated his life on March 6, 1955. His life was never the same after that time. Henry was a loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather who positively influenced the lives of everyone he encountered. We will deeply miss his presence here on earth, but we rejoice in knowing Henry has now heard the Lord's welcoming to his good and faithful servant and received his Eternal reward. Those who also accepted Christ into their hearts and are in Heaven to greet Henry are his parents; sister, Lois & husband, Clifford; brother, John & wife, Pauline; Willie Mae (Young) Carver, mother of Henry's 3 children; and stepmother, Oshen (Wilson) Carver. Those here on earth that Henry now awaits to greet someday, his wife, Opal Marie (Stotts) Carver; daughters, Shirley Mae Carver McGuire and Carolyn & husband, Walter Murrow; son, Robert Mitchel Carver & wife, Judy; sister, Dorothy Barrett & husband, Marky; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Memorials may be made to May Ave. Wesleyan Church, 5201 S. May Ave, OKC, OK 73119, Gideon's International or your favorite charity. Viewing & visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 PM Wednesday & Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 PM Thursday evening. Services to celebrate Henry's life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at the May Ave. Wesleyan Church, 5201 S.
