IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Homer Dexter
Holleyman
December 11, 1930 – July 17, 2023
Homer Dexter Holleyman went to be with his Lord, Monday, July 17, 2023, at the age of 92. He died peacefully in his home with his family and caregiving family continuously by his side for the past six months. Dexter was born December 11, 1930 at home on the farm south of Okmulgee, OK, the son of Homer Albert and Annie Bell (Madewell) Holleyman.
Dexter was raised on the farm and graduated from Schulter high school. He married Virginia Lee Howell on April 22, 1951, and made their first home in Cushing, OK. They later moved to Tulsa. After retirement, they moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They were members of the Church of Christ. Dexter served in the United States Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge during the Korean War.
Dexter loved the grocery business and specialized in OTC health and pharmaceutical products. He began his career as a grocer which led to his first sales job with Yeager Wholesale, then a regional vice president for Mass Merchandise, and then a vice president for McKesson Corp before retiring at the age of 65. Retirement without "work" didn't suit him so he worked for Crown Energy part time for 24 years in oil and gas production until Covid forced him to retire at the age of 89.
Dexter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years Virginia Lee Howell Holleyman; and his sisters Lucille Parker and Nora Duckworth.
Dexter is survived by his brother Richard Howard Holleyman and his wife Helen; his son, Randy Holleyman and his wife Ronda; his daughter, Regina Phillips; his grandchildren, Broc Holleyman, Bary Holleyman, Jason Munier, Justin Munier, Jeremy Munier and Koby Smith; his 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be 4-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home (13125 N. MacArthur Blvd). Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Vondel Smith Mortuary North Chapel, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13313 N Kelly also in Oklahoma City.
Memorials may be made to the Memorial Road Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 2221 E. Memorial Road, Edmond, OK 73013.
