January 2, 1924 – March 23, 2015
Homer Harlan Thompson, 91, passed from this life on March 23, 2015, leaving a loving family, but entering into an amazing reunion with the Lord. Dad was born on Jan 2, 1924 in Edmond, KS to Homer & Nell (Dean) Thompson. He helped his dad farm until entering WWII, where he served in the US Army. He received the Purple Heart & Bronze Star before being captured and spending several months in a German prison camp. After the war, Dad moved to Denver, CO where he met & married the love of his life, Lorene Starr Thompson. He & Lorene spent 62 years together, raising 4 children, traveling, volunteering, & enjoying life. Dad had a career as a long-haul truck driver, traveling all over the US. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, served as a member of the DAV Honor Guard, was a VFW member & served as both local & State Commander of Oklahoma, Ex-POW Chapter. He volunteered at the OKC VA Hospital for many years, serving coffee & donuts, handshakes & encouragement to the many veterans. Dad loved to garden & had an amazing garden for years, but the most precious gift in his life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Lorene (of the home); daughters: Beverly Wheeler (Arlington, TX), Christine DeVore & husband, James (Blanchard, OK); twin sons: Donald Thompson (Weatherford, TX) & Douglas Thompson & wife, Jennifer (Texarkana, TX). He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, with another on the way! He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters: Hope Hicks, Helen Thompson & Gayle Noone; and daughter-in-law, Rachelle Thompson. A Vigil service including the Rosary will be celebrated at 7 PM Thursday, March 26th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday, March 27th. Both services will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 800 NW 5th St, Moore, OK. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cem. Memorials may be made to the DAV Local Chapter #85.
