Obituary

Ira Jean (Matthews) McCracken passed away on May 19, 2021, surrounded by family. Jean was born to LeRoy Raymond "Boney" Matthews and Nedra Ann (Bullock) Matthews on September 24, 1933 in Ada, Ok. Her family moved to Purcell during her childhood where she graduated from Purcell High School. In 1951 she married Ralph McCracken and moved to Norman. She studied at the University of Oklahoma and later retired from OU after working for two years as secretary to the Dean of Students and fourteen years at Sooner House. Jean was a long-time member of the Cleveland County Genealogical Society, where she served in many roles, including immediate past president. She laid the foundation to move the society from Moore to Norman in the early 80's. She was instrumental in opening the CCGS Library in 1990 and in recently moving the collection into the Norman Public Library. She also served as a board member of the Cleveland County Historical Society. Jean had a passion for researching genealogy for her family and community. She was the resident historian of Cleveland County and its families; her knowledge of Norman's history was extensive, and she gladly shared with anyone who inquired. She enjoyed sharing time with her loved ones, family road trips around Oklahoma, trips to Texas to visit family, researching, reading, watching basketball, and anything that brought laughter to her face. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathy Lynn McCracken; brother, Robert Terry Matthews; daughter-in-law, Leanne Susan (Bell) McCracken; and grandson, Kevin Michael Henninger. She is survived by daughter Terry Ann (Mark Alan) Dunlop; daughter, Patty Jean (Michael Kent) Sewell; son Robert Scott McCracken; brother, David LeRoy (Nelda) Matthews; grandchildren, Rudolph Carl Henninger V; Adam Kyle Henninger; Devon Lynn Lahrman; Heather Dawn Adams; Kevin William Gallion; Curtis Scott McCracken; Allison Bell Ingraham; Nathan Robert Ingraham. Her twelve great grandchildren include Rudolph Carl Henninger VI, Rex Cooper Henninger, Camden Ivy Lahrman, Elliot Mae Lahrman, Phoenix June Lahrman, Finley Max Lahrman, Samuel Quincy Adams, Nathaniel Abbot Adams, Abigail Amelia Adams, Emmaline Rhyan Gallion, Eloise Jean Gallion, and Hudson Brian Guthrie. She also leaves behind her dear friends from the Cleveland County Genealogical Society.
