Obituary

Ivalee "Ivy" (Stine) Herrin of Oklahoma City, 85, formerly of Springfield, Illinois and Fort Worth, Texas, passed away at home Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Vondel Smith Mortuary North in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma handled the private cremation.

Ivy was born April 22, 1937, in Brownstown, Illinois to Wayne R (Sturdy) Stine and Mable E (Justi) Stine. Ivy graduated from Brownstown High School and shortly thereafter she moved to Springfield, Illinois, attended Browns Business College. Her parents had to get a new TV antenna to receive the Springfield station where Ivy was a weather girl wearing a bathing suit.

She was employed by the Illinois Secretary of State, Charles F Carpenter, as a Secretary in the Driver's License Division where she set a record for transcribing and typing the most dictated letters, 116, in one day in that office. She managed the Primary Campaign Office for Ray Page, candidate for Illinois Superintendent of Public Instruction while continuing to work for the Secretary of State until he retired. Ivy then accepted a position as a legal secretary in the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Active with Republican groups, Ivy was an officer of the Sangamon County Young Republicans, and was presented with the "Indian Award" for being the person designated "the hardest working Young Republican Woman in the State of Illinois" at the State Convention of the Illinois Young Republicans and attended the National Young Republican Leadership Training School in Washington, D. C. She was recognized by the Illinois House and Senate at a special ceremony for being selected "Miss Illinois Young Republican." She led the YR Caravan in the GOP Day Parade at the Illinois State Fair.

Ivy saw her future husband while she was at a table with some of her YR friends at Norb Andy's Tavern in Springfield. She did not know that he had seen her picture in the Springfield Newspaper, he recognized her while he was sitting at the bar and knew that he wanted to meet her. He sent a greeting card to her office the next day showing a man falling off a bar stool with the caption "I am falling head over heels for you." She had to ask her friend "who is this card from" and her friend told her that it was that guy sitting at the bar at Norb's. She married Snyder E Herrin II on November 26, 1969, in Springfield to begin a 52 year plus love story. Mixed marriages can work – Snyder was a Democrat. Her friends said that it would not last six months. Ivy and Snyder continued to live in Springfield where they enjoyed the Sangamo Club, Oakcrest Country Club, and Illini Country Club. Ivy had a role as an extra in the movie "The Awakening Land" filmed in Sangamon County.

Ivy moved to Oklahoma City with her husband in 1984 where she made many new friends but remained close to her Brownstown Classmates and Springfield friends. In 1999 she had an aneurism that was caught in time and was coiled by Interventional Neuro Radiologist, Dr. Georgianne Snowden at Baptist Hospital. Thanks for giving Ivy an additional 22 years to be loved, to love, to continue caring and giving.

Ivy loved to entertain and was a charming, bubbly host on race weekends at their Texas Motor Speedway condominium, welcoming family, friends, and Snyder's co-workers. In Oklahoma City she was one of the original members of the "Friday Nighters," a group of friends that sit together to dine at the Greens Country Club. She lived life to its fullest.

Ivy celebrated her 85th Birthday with a party just 19 days (about 2 and a half weeks) before her sudden death. She is survived by her husband, Snyder; sister Jo Ellen (Stine) Frailey; nephew Scott (Anna Sheyko) Frailey of Champaign; niece Shelly Seamon of Brownstown; grandniece Sydney Seaman; grandniece Sophia Sheyko-Frailey; grandnephew Garrick Sheyko-Frailey; sister-in-law Sandra Herrin of Carbondale, Illinois; Stepchildren Kathy Rogers of Carterville, Illinois; Becky (Carl) Morgan of Waynesboro, Georgia; Greg (Stacy) Herrin of Carterville, Illinois. Step grandchildren Farrah, Ashley, Becca, and Cory.

Preceding her in death were her parents and Snyder's parents, and stepson Snyder Bruce Herrin.

Ivy wanted her family and friends to celebrate her life, not mourn it.
