James (Jim) Dean Cash died peacefully on July 14, 2024, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He was 67. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 26, 1956, to Patricia Ann and Dean Cash, Jim was a faithful friend to all and close to his family including his late parents, one brother, Brett Cash (and husband James) of Oklahoma City, OK, Uncle Bill Dewey (and wife Susan) of Midwest City, OK, Aunt Susan Sverha (and late husband John) of Rockville, MD, Aunt Jeanne Cox (and late husband Phil) of Yukon, OK. Jim was his maternal grandparents', Oscar and Agnes Dewey, first grandchild. Jim will be remembered as a beloved cousin by his cousins Michael Dewey (and wife Tina) of Midwest City, OK, Lisa Dewey (and husband Steve) of Washington, DC, Dr. John Sverha of Arlington, VA, Jeff Cox (and wife Christina) of Houston, TX, Jason Cox (and wife Kendy) of Yukon, OK, and his second cousin Mary Ann Lambertsen (and late husband John) of Boulder, CO. Jim is preceded in death by his beloved life partner Sheila Marie Bennett of Rochester, Minnesota, with whom he spent some of the happiest years of his life. Jim attended elementary and middle school in Midwest City, OK, and graduated from Midwest City High School in 1974. After serving our country for a short period of time in the United States Air Force, Jim studied at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee where he earned an Associate of Technology degree in 1980 and was awarded the Outstanding Attendance Award for never missing a day of class. He worked in air conditioning and heating for over 30 years and helped manage these services at several buildings and apartments in Oklahoma City and Midwest City as well as at the University of Oklahoma for a short period where he served on the maintenance staff. Jim also worked with organizations to help install and/or repair heating and air conditioning equipment for low-income senior citizens who otherwise could not afford these services. Jim often worked independently and had his own air conditioning business. Jim also contributed to local news as a photographer, writer and editor covering stories related to music, theater, and dining in Oklahoma City. Jim was a faithful and active church member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Midwest City, OK and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN and had countless friends through church, work, and life. Every time you were with Jim he ran into someone he knew who was happy to see him. Jim was adventurous and pursued many of his interests with passion, curiosity, and wonder, including photography, owning and piloting a hot air balloon and participating in annual balloon festivals in New Mexico, sailing, working on a shrimp boat off the coast of Texas, cooking and baking delicious 7-layer bars at Christmas, growing vegetables in his garden, and moving to Minnesota from Oklahoma with his partner Sheila. Jim treasured his family and was the keeper of much family history, including old Bibles, pictures, tools, and special dishes. Jim loved gathering with family and friends; dining at new restaurants; and enjoying plays, concerts, his cute dogs, a warm hearty meal, Starlight peppermints, and coffee klatches with fellow retirees. Jim found purpose and joy helping people, especially with tasks around their homes, including air conditioning and heating. Jim never met a stranger and made and kept friends wherever he went. His generous spirit, humor, affectionate "hello kiddo!" greeting, and love will be missed. Memorial Services will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 1:00 at St. Augustine of Canterbury, 14700 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73134, and on July 28 at 9:30 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 559 20th St. SW, Rochester, MN 55902.
