Obituary

James Kenneth Dewbre

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and trusted advisor to many passed from this life on February 19, 2022 at age 89. James Kenneth Dewbre was born to Grady and Deloras Dewbre on April 10, 1932 in Oklahoma City. A provider from the beginning, Kenneth started working at 14, later being employed at the Wilson meat packing plant, working overnight, and stopping at Cattleman's Café for a ham steak and eggs before school. It was at Capitol Hill High he met his high school sweetheart Elizabeth Jackson and was the president of several organizations, including being senior class president. After graduating in 1950, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Kenneth and Elizabeth embarked on their sixty-nine year marriage in 1952. After discharge, he worked nights at Tinker AFB and attended the University of Oklahoma by day earning engineering and law degrees. He opened his law practice in 1960 and practiced for 62 years until his passing, the last thirty-three in partnership with his son. A chess player and avid bird hunter, he never missed the chance to sneak out of the office early for an afternoon hunt. Most of all, he reveled in his family and would do anything for them. Stubborn, maybe a little grumpy and with a mischievousness bordering on ornery, "Gampaw" was loved dearly by family who already miss him terribly.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Amy Dewbre Hill, sister Joye Young and husband Jim, and nephew Jim L. Young, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son Ross Dewbre and wife Jan, son-in-law Terrell Hill, grandchildren Ryan Hill and wife Marissa, Justin Hill, Kelsey Dewbre and Jamie Dewbre, great-grandchildren Callen Hill and Aubrey Hill, and niece Teri Newby and husband Cole and family.
