IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James E
Williams
March 5, 1946 – May 29, 2025
James "Jim" Edward Williams passed away on May 29, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on March 5, 1946, in Oklahoma City, James grew up with a deep-rooted love for his hometown—a love that would shape his life's work and legacy. He attended Midwest City High School and later studied Business and Art at the University of Central Oklahoma. James also served proudly in the Air Force Reserves, embodying the values of discipline and service that guided him throughout his life.
From a young age, James displayed a remarkable work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. By the age of 13, he was juggling a morning paper route and an after-school job sacking groceries. This industrious beginning marked the start of a real estate career that would span nearly six decades. More than just a profession, real estate was his calling—a canvas where he could express his passion for beauty, functionality, and community. James believed in the pride of ownership and in creating spaces that were not only lasting but meaningful.
A fair and principled businessman, he was deeply committed to uplifting the community he cherished. Anyone who has lived in OKC over the past 50 years has most likely experienced—or been touched in some way—by one of his many projects throughout the city. One of his most notable achievements was the transformation of Shepherd Mall into a dynamic business park, which became a vital resource for several state and federal agencies in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing. His eye for design and appreciation of architecture shone through in both his commercial projects and the homes he built for his family.
James was a devoted husband and loving father. He found joy in life's simple pleasures—admiring a piece of art, watching a scary movie, cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners, and playing the occasional practical joke. He was kind and generous, and those who knew him well reveled in his sharp humor, dry wit, and gentle spirit. His legacy lives on not only in the buildings he left behind but in the lives he touched.
He will be missed beyond measure by his wife of 32 years, Jill Williams; his daughters, Jennifer Williams and Alexandria Williams; his sister, Linda Jackson Steppe; and a host of dear family and friends.
A service will be held at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the arts or your favorite charity—or simply raise a glass and tell a joke in honor of Jim.
