James H. Little M.D., world renowned pioneering cataract surgeon, left earth for heaven at the age of 89 on June 14, 2023. His earthly journey ended in Norman, Oklahoma after a long full life.
Jim was born on January 23, 1934 in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Hoyt and Elsie Little. He spent his early years in Western Oklahoma, graduated Classen High School in Oklahoma City, and served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Commander in Germany, after which he attended the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine.
He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Kent Bowers, Kathi and John Springman, and Janet and David Bradford; ten grandchildren and their significant others: Michael Miller, Misty Miller, Lissie Teehee, Kyle and Natalie Springman, Jordan Bradford, Sarah Bradford and Peter Gordon, Elli Bradford, Isaiah Bradford, Kandice and Zac Holley, and Dylan Little; and six great grandchildren, Leilani and Jacinda Miller, Mira Miller-O'Connor, and Taylor, Olivia, and Addison Teehee. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Charlene Little, Kriss Ryland, and nieces and nephews Misty Williams and Kristin Herring, John Ryland and Tom and Hannah Ryland, along with many friends who loved him and will miss him. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Margaret of 52 years, his brother Lanny Little, niece Diana Parham, and son James H. Little Jr.
Dr. Little revolutionized the world of cataract surgery as we know it, changing millions of lives across the globe. He was also a world-class skeet shooter, and held the 1990 Husband and Wife skeet shooting title. As he would say, "Keep your eye on the target and hit every one." Jim was gifted with a dry sense of humor, a quick wit, and an uncanny sense of comedic timing. He was a gifted story teller, and a compassionate physician. Jim Little will be dearly missed.
