James E.
Nettleton
January 27, 1938 – April 25, 2026
James E. “Jim” Nettleton went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 25, 2026. He passed peacefully at home in Oklahoma City. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at Providence Hospice for making Jim’s final days calm and meaningful.
Jim was born on January 27, 1938, in Lewiston, Maine to James R. & Thurley H. Nettleton along with siblings Stephen, Robert, Marion & Elma. Jim spent his younger years in Maine. His early years in Maine were formative in his love for the outdoors. Jim’s father was in the military, and at one point their family moved around a bit depending on his father’s military detail. His detail brought the family to Oklahoma where Jim graduated from Midwest City High School.
After high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country proudly for over 33 years as a member of the Oklahoma Air National Guard where he obtained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Jim also worked for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired in 1994 as a Communications Technician.
Jim was a member at Draper Park Christian Church (known now as Southside Christian Church) for nearly 15 years. He was well connected with his church family and when he was able, he was quite active with his small group from the church. Jim was also a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 539.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed being outside. He liked hunting, fishing, camping and just enjoying nature. His favorite wildlife to admire were eagles and bears and acquired quite a figurine collection. At one time, Jim also enjoyed square dancing for a period of time.
Jim will always be remembered for his generosity. Claire stated, “Jim was the most generous man that I ever knew.” He touched many lives through his kindhearted ways. Although he will be deeply missed, he will be remembered by his loving family and friends.
