JANIE FAY ELKINS was born April 7, 1938 at French Town, Arkansas to Delbert Wain and Estel Faye (Cherry) Coil. She died Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years 2 months and 18 days old. She was a member of the Southern Ridge Church of Christ. Janie taught school for many years. She taught "English Second Language" in California. Later Janie taught "English Second Language" for 17 years in the Mid-Del School system. Janie began the "Oakcrest Literacy Council" at Oakcrest Church of Christ in 1991 and continued to lead that program until 2003. Janie also served one year with the Oklahoma Literacy Commission.

She was preceded in death by:
• Her parents, Delbert Wain and Estel Faye Coil
• Her first husband, James Edward Barton
• Her second husband Gilbert "Gil" Elkins

Survivors include:
• Son James Edward Barton of Dibble, Oklahoma
• Daughter, Mary Elizabeth and husband Eddie Pelton of Oklahoma City
• Daughter, Martha Jane Lisauckis (Prounounced, Lă-sock-ǔs) and husband Tony of Groves, Texas
• Brother, Delbert Wain Coil of Harrah
• Four grandchildren, Thomas Barton, Anthony John Lisauckis, III, Colin Edward Pelton and Caleb Wayne Pelton
• Many other relatives, friends and church family
