Obituary

Jerry Monte Black was born June 4, 1942 in Carmi, Illinois the son of Ray D. and Cathryn June (Cumiford) Black. He went to be with his Lord at his home on Silver Lake on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Jerry was raised in Oklahoma City where he graduated from Putnam City High School in 1960. He went on to graduate from Oklahoma State University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and a wrestling all-star. During the Vietnam War he served our country in the U.S. Army. Jerry followed his father into the insurance business owning a State Farm Insurance Agency until his death. Jerry earned a Master's Degree in Divinity and Theological Studies from Phillip's University, Summa Cum Laude. He became a teacher of Theology at O.C.U. and used his knowledge working on archaeological digs in Caesarea, Israel. He is survived by his daughters, Nicole Black Burns and her husband Jack of Carmel, IN and Tiffany N. Black of OKC; his son-in-law, Tom Dawson and his wife, Ginger of Tulsa; his sister, Cindy Gray and her husband Gene of OKC; and his beloved grandchildren, Callie Hawkins, Chance Hawkins, Lindsey Dawson and Kaylee Dawson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Courtney Black Dawson; and his sister, Katie Raye Jordan. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 2nd in the Vondel Smith Mortuary North Chapel, 13125 N.
