Obituary

Jerry L. Lingo, 78, passed away peacefully with his wife and sons by his side, in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 30, 2024, after an extended illness.

Jerry was born March 9, 1946, in Fairland, Oklahoma, to Roy C. and Elizabeth (Rogers) Lingo. After graduating from Afton High School, Jerry earned a BA from Central State College (now UCO) and a master's degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. He retired in 2012 following a distinguished 38-year career in education, during which he served as a coach, teacher, principal, and superintendent in the Afton, Luther, Vinita, and Purdy, MO school districts. Additionally, Jerry served in the United States Army Reserves 95th Division [Training] HHC for 26 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant.

In 1974, he married Janet L. Goyer, the love of his life, and two sons, Jason and James, were born into this union. The family enjoyed many years attending sporting events together and traveling to wherever Jerry was ordered to complete his yearly military summer camp tour.

Jerry's most important roles in life were being a loving and devoted husband, a proud and supportive father, and a wise and patient grandpa. He loved playing catch, board games, and "Monster" with his grandkids, whom he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts.

His hobbies included golf, fishing and hunting, family camping trips, and attending his family's school, church, and sporting events. He also enjoyed watching his two sons coach high school softball together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Richard Lingo, sister Vonda Absher, sister-in-law Jane Lingo, and in-laws Betty and J.C. Goyer.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Janet, at their home in Moore. He leaves behind his sons, Jason and his wife, Mindy Lingo, and James and his wife, Annie Lingo, all residing in Moore. He was a proud grandfather to Jenna, Jaxson, and Lance.

Jerry is also survived by his sister-in-law Carolyn Lingo, his aunt Charlene Lingo, the Goyer families, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers from A Path of care Tendercare Hospice.

The family has chosen two charities in lieu of flowers that friends can make a donation to in care of Jerry:

Alzheimer's Association of Oklahoma City, 6601 Broadway Extension, Suite 120 OKC, OK 73116.
