IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Don
Simms
April 12, 1966 – November 20, 2024
Jerry Don Simms, 58, left the loving embraces of his family to be held within the arms of God on the 20th of November 2024.
Jerry was born to George Andy "Pete" Simms and Joyce Arleta Simms on the 12th of April 1966 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he grew up alongside his siblings; Ronald Simms, Deborah Springall and Peggy Simms-Watley.
On the 18th of September 2000, Jerry married Jaime Lynn Simms, whom he often referred to as his confidant, best friend, inspiration, and greatest love. Throughout their beautiful years of marriage, they created a family and legacy that Jerry spent pouring his unwavering love, boundless wisdom, and endless creativity into. His four children; Collin Simms, Logan Simms, Faith Metscher, and Hunter Simms know him as a Godly leader of his family, a best friend, a constant, and the champion of dad jokes. His 5 grandchildren; Charlie Simms, Marley Simms, Aurora Simms, Graylynne Simms, and Oliver Simms know him as a fun-loving storyteller, a patient teacher, an artist, an upmost gentleman on countless pepaw-granddaughter dates and the king of late-night grilled cheeses.
Jerry lived a life full of notable accomplishments and admirable adventures that stemmed from his rooted relationship with Christ, his eagerness to learn and try new things, his readiness to mentor to others, and his steadfast drive to achieve the greatest life that he could provide for his family and himself. As a teenager, Jerry bought and restored classic cars alongside his father. He then passed down that knowledge and love for cars to his children and grandchildren, imprinting endless generational memories. Throughout his twenties, Jerry attended The University of Oklahoma. During that time, his love of learning flourished as he studied architecture, meteorology, aeronautics, and ophthalmology. For majority of his thirties, he owned a thriving construction company. In his forties he opened a restaurant; Jaimes Grill on the Hill, alongside his wife, where he effortlessly built hundreds of life-long friendships. Following the sale of their successful restaurant, Jerry began work in the oil and gas industry, finding his work home at Miratech-Powertherm-Maxim as an Account Manager. His love for people, engineering and knowledge propelled him into a position that catered to his heart of service and devotion to meaningful relationships. Because of this, Jerry's customers, and co-workers, whom spanned across many states, quickly became some of his closest friends.
Jerrys love for his family and friends is infinite, meticulously cultivated with purpose and kindness. You could feel his love while you were next to him. You could hear his love while you spoke with him. As he sat with you and listened or spoke his unfairly perfect and well-thought-out opinion, you felt his investment into yours and his relationship. As his fingers ran down the keys of a piano, playing one of the many songs that he wrote for his wife, as you followed his paint brush marks across a canvas, reflecting a favorite memory recreated, or held one of his woodworks, you knew his love for those around him was deeply rooted. And as you belly-laughed with him until neither could breathe, and only tears could escape, you felt his love running throughout you. Although Jerry is no longer physically with us, he is surrounded by those in Heaven who have preceded him; his brother, Ronnie, his father, Pete, his mother, Joyce, and a host of valued loved ones.
Jerry Simms is survived by his wife; Jaime Simms. Children; Collin (Hannah) Simms, Logan Simms, Faith (Cody) Metscher, Hunter (Krishna) Simms. Grandchildren; Charlie Simms, Marley Simms, Aurora Simms, Graylynne Simms, and Oliver Simms. Siblings; Deborah (Bert) Springall, Peggy Simms-Watley.
In honor of Jerry Simms and the joy that he received while being surrounded by those that he loved, we invite his family and friends to join us for his memorial service and lunch following his service, which will both take place at the funeral home. The service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at Vondel L. Smith & Son at South Lakes 4000 SW 119th St (SW 119th & I-44) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73173 (405) 692-5503. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross Hero Care Network that provides emergency communications and critical services to military members, veterans, and their families. 1-877-272-7337.
