Jimmy Hollis Vermillion

Jimmy Hollis Vermillion, 90, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on August 4, 2026.

Born on April 21, 1936, in Elk City, Oklahoma, Jim was the son of John and Viola Vermillion. He graduated from Elk City High School in 1954 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. Following his military service, Jim built a distinguished career in accounting that spanned more than four decades. He retired from the State of Oklahoma in 2005, but his passion for the work led him to continue part-time employment with Variety Health Clinic for another ten years.

On July 21, 1962, Jim married the love of his life, Barbara Murray, in Oklahoma City. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising five children and instilling in them the values of honesty, hard work, and generosity.

Jim's greatest joy was his family. His happiest moments were spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom lovingly knew him as "Papa." For many years, he coached youth sports with the Southside Sooners, where he became affectionately known as "Mr. V." to the countless young athletes he coached. Jim taught not only the fundamentals of the game but also valuable life lessons about character, teamwork, and perseverance. Long after his coaching days ended, he remained an avid sports fan, especially when it came to supporting his grandchildren. Whether attending local games or traveling across the country, Jim rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

Jim is survived by his children, Sheri Rogers; Lori Smith and her husband, Randy; Karen Smith and her husband, Scott; and Stephen Vermillion. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: David Rogers and his wife, Kayla; Jami Mattocks and her husband, Chaz; Chris Rogers and his wife, Kelsey; Timothy Smith; Kaitlin Smith; Cara Langford and her husband, Norris; and Shelby Reynolds and her husband, Conner. He was blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren: Rylee, Bennett, Daters, Delvon, Dedrick, Dessi, Lilli, Jackson, Maizy, Norah, James, Rosie, Ben, Cam, Amaya, Aria, and Norris III. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara "Barb" Vermillion; his son, James Alan "Jimmy" Vermillion; his parents, John and Viola Vermillion; two sisters; and five brothers.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vondel Smith Funeral Home on South Western Avenue. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Kingsview Free Will Baptist Church.

Jim will be remembered for his kindness, witty sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was deeply loved by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.---
