Jo Ann Puckett died on February 12, 2009. Jo Ann (Witherspoon) Puckett was born in 1929 to Joe and Winnie Witherspoon. She was the oldest of three children; Farrell and Nene. Jo Ann met and married Thomas Puckett in Oklahoma City. During their marriage, they travelled the world while Tom served as Chief Warrant Office in the U.S. Army. As a young woman Jo Ann donated her time and energy as an American Red Cross "Grey Lady," assisting with the medical needs of servicemen. After Tom's retirement from the Army, she resided in Oklahoma City for 50 years. She was a past State President of the Oklahoma "The League of Women Voters," active in "Planned Parenthood" and with her church. When reminded of all she had done, she would often exclaim, "Not too bad for a girl from Carter, Oklahoma!"
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her brother, sister, her parents, and her husband, Thomas T. Puckett. She leaves treasured memories for two sons, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Jo Ann will be missed by family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. A memorial service will be held at Vondel L. Smith & Son North Colonial Chapel, on Saturday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m., with internment in Lawton, Oklahoma on February 23rd.
