Joan (Paulson) Durning
Born in Floral Park, NY on February 13, 1936 to her loving parents, Viola and Harry Paulson. Joan studied sewing while in school and it was one of her lifelong gifts and passions. It was in school that she met her sweetheart, George Durning. They married September 11, 1955. Upon George's return from serving in the Korean War they grew their family. Joan was actively engaged in raising their children, serving as a den mother in Cub Scouts and a troop leader in Girl Scouts and other committees in both scouting groups. She also worked for State Farm Insurance in Oakdale, NY. Joan and George moved to Oklahoma City in the late 1970s where Joan continued an active social life sharing of her many talents. She loved to create and give gifts of her art work among her family and friends. Joan was a talented seamstress, crocheter, ceramicist, and needleworker among the numerous other hobbies she chose to enjoy and share. Joan gave of herself to others throughout her life bringing true joy to those she met. Beautiful woman, beautiful person, beautiful soul, beautiful life. Joan is predeceased by her parents, Harry and Viola Paulson; older brother and wife, Harry and Arlene Paulson; and her younger brother, James Paulson. Joan is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 53 years, George Durning, loving and caring children: Deb Bonura and husband Joseph, Donna Johnston and husband Norman, loving and caring sons: Douglas Durning, and Daniel Durning and wife Doris. Her dearest sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Edward McAdam. Joan is also survived by seven adoring grandchildren, Daniel Durning, Anthony Durning, Grant Johnston, Jason Durning, Christopher Durning, Kiersten Durning, and Matthew Bonura and step grandchildren: Brandon Wilson and Joseph Bonura and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, at Vondel Smith Mortuary North Colonial Chapel. A Wake service will be held from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
