IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joanne
Shingleton
August 2, 1929 – September 7, 2022
JoAnne (Wells) Shingleton, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior September 7, 2022. JoAnne was born on August 2, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK, the only child of William T. & Zera (Grooms) Wells. JoAnne began playing the piano at the age of 6, and at age 12 was elected to be church pianist at Southside Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School.
Joanne and Bill Shingleton met in grade school and began dating in high school, ultimately marrying in May 1948 at the age of 19. Their family grew with the births of their three sons, Michael, Keith and Kent. In June of 1957, JoAnne began what would become over 40 years of service at Exchange Avenue Baptist Church in the music department and also supporting Bill in his role as "part time" music minister. The majority of vacations for Bill and JoAnne were spent taking choir trips across the nation, singing coast to coast with performances in Mexico, Canada, the Bahamas and at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah.
From 1973 until 1988, Bill and JoAnne opened Shingleton's Appliance Center where JoAnne managed the office; Bill and Keith ran the showroom.
JoAnne loved her Lord Jesus Christ and was a woman of strong and unwavering faith. As a staunch believer in the power of prayer, she prayed for her family and friends and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she would spend eternity in heaven. Every member of JoAnne's family knew how much she loved her family! She never missed a birthday and her tradition was to call every family member on their special day to sing Happy Birthday followed by asking, "Did you receive the card and check I sent in the mail?"
JoAnne cherished her friendships; some of her closet friends were couples who formed what was called the "Birthday Club". This group of friends stood the test of time for over 70 years as they together experienced both the mountaintops and valleys of life. A few years before Bill passed away, Bill and JoAnne bought a small lot at Lake Eufaula known as the Shingleton Shangri-la where many memories were made hosting family and friends. JoAnne loved to laugh and always embraced the opportunity to dress up for a skit, a performance, or anything involving some good clean fun! She loved to entertain as she hosted friends and family in her home. "JoAnne's Tea Room", as she called it, became a favorite to many lady friends as they gathered for food and fun. Her family always knew that Christmas Eve would be hosted by JoAnne and it was magical, full of chocolate goodie dessert, a visit from her best friend Chan Seals, lots of candy, shrimp cocktail, and a lively game of dirty Santa.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1987. She is survived by her three sons, Michael and wife, Kathy, Keith and wife, Linda, and Kent and wife, Shawnah.
Grandchildren include Thad and wife Kelley, Adam and wife Lauren, Bryan, Simon and wife Rachel, Carolyn, Jared and wife Emily, Maci, Molly, and Sarah.
Great-grandchildren, Hayley, & husband Gabriel, Madison, Campbell, Olivia, Amanda, Hanna, Jude, Archer, Piper, Hadley, Shiloh, Judah, Noa, and Hayden; as well as many other loving family and friends.
