IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Patrick
Connor
June 4, 1963 – September 14, 2019
John "Art" Connor was born on June 4, 1963, in
Kansas City, MO to Steve and Dorothy Connor, who
preceded him in death. His parents brought him and
his sisters to Oklahoma at a young age to Oklahoma
City, then on to Piedmont, OK where he attended
Junior and Senior High School. After High School, Art
attended college while working for AT&T before
moving with AT&T back to Kansas City. He retired
from AT&T in 1995, and moved back to OKC in 2013.
Art was a founding member of "Act Up "in 1989, and
instrumental in the establishment of the Human
Rights Ordinance Project, that became the Human
Rights Project. Although the passion in the
community's hearts for legal rights was urgent, the
ordinance was not passed until June 3, 1993. Art was
there among the 100+ observers, just as he was
there throughout the process.
Art is survived by sisters Chrissy Chitwood, of
Chesterfield MO and Karen Peterson and brother-in
law Brian of Oklahoma City, OK, nephew Cody
McKedy with his wife Cara McKedy.
A celebration of Art's life will be
held on September 29, 2019, at 2:00pm in the East
Room of the canopy, at the OKC Zoo.
