Obituary

Dr. John C. Darnold, D.D.S. In the early morning hours of Friday, March 19, 2021, John left this earth and joined his Heavenly Father. John was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to George and Irene (Cearley) Darnold. As a young boy, John played baseball, enjoyed working on cars, and riding motorcycles. He took his first job at the age of 16 at Reda Pump in Bartlesville. Between his junior and senior years, he made an adventurous and cash-strapped trip to Oregon to pick peas. John graduated from College High School in 1955 and went on to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Three different dental schools accepted him after just three years at NSU. In 1958, John continued his education and made the move to Baylor University College of Dentistry in Dallas. During the same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Kay "Casey" Stone and the two were later blessed with three sons, Steve, Mike and Scott. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Baylor in 1962 and moved to Oklahoma City to begin his dental practice. John served his patients for more than 30 years until retiring in 1997. John and Casey raised their family in the Baptist church and led a Christ centered life together. He and his wife have been faithful members of Emmaus Baptist Church for the past 12 years. They were active in the 50's Plus Sunday School class and have made great memories with their church family over the years. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend. In his younger years, John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed dove and quail hunting, bass fishing, and playing golf. John took great pleasure in raising, training and hunting behind many bird dogs, both pointers and English setters. He enjoyed playing a variety of golf courses, and later in life shooting sporting clays, with his sons and friends. In 1997, John was the Oklahoma state champion in sporting clays. He attended many University of Oklahoma football, basketball and baseball games, and traveled to several golf events, including the 2015 Masters. John loved the fellowship as well as being out in nature. John is no longer with us, but he left a wonderful legacy. His memory will live on through his loved ones. John was preceded in death by his parents George and Irene (Cearley) Darnold, son Mike Darnold and brother Dick Darnold. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Kay "Casey" Darnold, son Steve Darnold, son Scott Darnold and wife Ann, sister Pat McAlister, daughter-in-law Cherrie Darnold, granddaughters Tia Work and husband Ben, Chelsey Hinds and husband Tom, Ashley Jackson and husband Justin, Shelby Darnold, and great grandchildren Emily Work, Alex Work, Levi Troxell, Gracie Jackson, Hunter Hinds, Audrey Jackson, Sawyer Hinds and Madilynn Jackson, as well as many extended family and friends.
