Gieck
August 25, 1932 – February 13, 2026
Memorial Service
Chapel Hill United Methodist Church
2:00 - 3:00 pm (Central time)
John Cade Gieck was born in Heber Springs, Ark. to Rev. John George and Eda Pearl Cade Gieck, on August 25, 1932. John Cade Gieck is survived by his BFFs, Dr. Bill and Sharon Durant; his Godsons, Riley and his wife Lori and Bryan and his wife MaryJo Durant; and his Great Godsons, Sam, Jake, Ben, and Andy Durant.
Gieck entered LSU upon high school graduation and went to work for Hughes Tool Company upon graduation from LSU. Gieck worked for Hughes Tool Company / Baker Hughes for 51 years and was privileged to see many parts of the world. Gieck taught in the Hughes Christensen Drilling Seminar for many years at The Polk Street facility in Houston, TX and then The Woodlands facility in The Woodlands, TX.
Gieck lectured at our Petroleum Universities with his famous ‘two bit” talk and worked with our student Society of Petroleum Engineering [S.P.E.] groups at these Universities, and played in their golf tourneys, for Hughes Christensen. Upon retirement from Hughes Christensen, Gieck returned to his Durant Family in OKCity. Gieck started working with our OKCity Hughesnews group, a quarterly report of news and views of our retired Oklahoma Hughes Families. While attending the OKCity oil country meetings it was so nice to renew so many of his friendships from his Hughes family, the University families, and the customers from Hughes Christensen Drilling Seminar group in Oklahoma City, OK. In 2010 Gieck entered the “Legion of Honor” for SPE for 50 years of continuous membership and service.
Retirement with his Chapel Hill UMC family, his Durant Family, his Greer Family, his Hughes Family, and the many customers and friends was very rewarding to Gieck, in Oklahoma City, OK.
