Obituary

John Morse Lowe, of Oklahoma City, peacefully passed on November 6th, 2025, with his wife, Kacy Lowe, by his side. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 15th, 1985, John spent most of his life living in Texas, and despite spending his early childhood and his last eight years in Oklahoma, he identified proudly as a Texan.

Standing 6'6" with arms and legs like tree trunks, John did everything "big." His passions ran deep, and when he developed an interest, he pursued it with encyclopedic knowledge — from airplanes to firearms, watches, knives, and precious metals. He collected, studied, and shared his interests with everyone around him. He was thoughtful, generous, and endlessly funny — always ready with a quip that could bring the house down.

John grew up primarily in Missouri City, Texas, with his mother, Barbara Kay Lowe, and spent time with his father, Daniel Wayne Lowe and family in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at their beloved Tulsa Mountain Ranch. His childhood was filled with adventure and curiosity, qualities that carried through his life.

A talented swimmer as a child, John became certified to dive with his father at a young age. In 2006, he attended Oceanic Dive School and became a commercial diver. He spent several years offshore as an underwater welder, collecting incredible stories he loved to share. Later, he became an ROV pilot, working on deep-sea wells — most notably serving on the team that successfully capped the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in September 2010.

After being diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3, a hereditary neurological movement disorder, in late 2011, John left the offshore industry and pursued a new passion — firearms craftsmanship. He opened The Gun Lab, a specialty firearms store in Dallas, where he poured his expertise and precision into his work and built strong relationships with customers and friends who admired his skill and authenticity.

John and Kacy's love story was years in the making. Having known each other as children through family friendships and vacations, they reconnected as adults when John began flirting with Kacy on Facebook. He visited her in Oklahoma City in August 2010 — and the rest was history. They "met in the middle," moving in together in Dallas in 2011, and got engaged in September 2012. On January 12, 2013, John and Kacy were married, beginning a life full of laughter, loyalty, and love.

They made their home in the Dallas area for over six years, where they adopted their three dogs — Baxter, Maggie, and Joy — before moving back to Oklahoma in 2017 to build a home in Oklahoma City. John was pleasantly surprised by two additional family members - cats Cash and Merle, that Kacy brought home from the vet one day.

Even as his illness progressed, John lived fully and on his own terms. He approached life with courage, humor, and determination, inspiring everyone who knew him with his resilience and sharp wit. While John was not traditionally religious, he had a steady faith in God that carried him forward — a quiet strength that anchored him through every challenge.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Kacy Lowe. In his final days, he was surrounded by the people who loved him most, family and friends who filled his world with warmth, laughter, and care.

John will be remembered for his fierce intelligence, humor, and loyalty — for doing everything "big," and for living with a heart that matched his stature.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the National Ataxia Foundation. Memorial service details forthcoming.
