Obituary of Joyce Bernadine Barton, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009. Joyce Bernadine Barton was born on June 17, 1927 in Bolchow, Missouri to Oren and Wavey Neely. Joyce grew up on a farm outside of Savannah, Missouri where she graduated from Savannah High School. She married Francis L. Barton in 1948 and had two boys, James L. and Stanley A. Barton. The family resided in Kansas City and Independence, Missouri until Francis and Joyce moved down to Oklahoma City to be with their son, Stan. They both resided at The Fountains of Canterbury until the death of Francis Barton in May of 2005. Joyce has been a resident of the Springs at Canterbury until her death. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son, James in October of 1998,, and her husband, Francis. She is survived by her youngest son, Stanley, her daughter in-law, Janice. She also has two grandchildren, Anne Nicholson and David Barton. She was a great-grandmother to Noelle and Ryan Nicholson in Frisco, TX. Joyce loved the Lord and was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church in OKC and had a wonderful Sunday School Class as she always described. Joyce loved to read, especially the Bible. She liked to garden and make ceramics during her earlier years. She loved to cook for her family and liked to go to movies when she had the chance. Her funeral will be held at Spring Creek Baptist Church on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Joyce will rest in peace in Floral Hill Cemetery in Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Spring Creek Baptist Church Library would please her so much.
